It really does seem that everything happens for a reason.
I'll be honest. Ever since Angkor Wat I have been in a slump. The sickness didn't help at all, and neither did my dislike of Cambodia in general. I went to new places, only to find myself still not where I wanted to be.
Travel was becoming a chore that had me sitting on buses while sick and ready to punch the next tuk tuk driver that didn't leave me alone after the smile and "No, thank you."
Then, I couldn't get my Vietnam visa in time and I came here to Kampot.
Yeah, I'm so happy it worked out this way. I would have missed out of this completely amazing place.
It is hard to even explain, because it's not like there is tons of amazing things to do here. I haven't done much of anything, but I love it here.
Maybe it is the amazing scenery, or the sunsets on the river with the mountains as a backdrop. Maybe it's the people that smile, wave, and say hello when you walk by. Maybe it's that the tuk tuk drivers wish you a happy Chinese New Year instead of hassle you, or that people here aren't just trying to get my money. It might be all if that.
Just standing there on the river bank, starring up at the mountains me remember that sense of wonder that had been missing for a while now.
Kampot is a place I was meant to end up in.
