It is actually kind of hard to write about the past few weeks, just because of how much has happened. I am keeping a written journal and rereading some of it, it feels like a lifetime ago and it was just 2-3 weeks.
I'll talk about Pai, because it has been the best part so far.
Most of it had to do with where I was staying, a newer guesthouse right outside the already small town and down a dirt road. It was perfect. I met more people there than in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, combined. Surprisingly, it is also the only place I had a private room. It was all because of the communal area, where everyone ate breakfast.
On the first day alone, I met an older man from Denmark, an American blogger, two American girls, a German couple, and an Australian couple. Hours of each day were spent just talking with whoever was around. Once, the German guy and the older man from Denmark just sat at my hut for an hour talking. More people came as the days went by, and I learned more about the world than I ever thought I would.
Happiness is so much simpler for me than I thought: good company, pretty places to hike, good spicy food, tea served in bamboo, and time to just relax. I have not been happier than I was there.
Someone said to not return years from now, as it won't be the same and it could destroy the memory. I don't think that is true. Pai will change, just like everywhere does with time. It won't be the same, and it is very true that I may come back and the magic will be gone. It won't change how awesome those 5 days were though.
